On the northwestern tip of Istria, Savudrija is located almost on the border of Slovenia – a typical tourist town, considered by some to be a suburb of Umag. Tourists flock to it in large numbers, appreciating the warm sea, beaches and pine forests. Access by cars or buses (train station in Umag).
To a distance of approx. 9 km of Umag leads the road called Savudrijska, along which hotels and tourist estates were built. There is a post office near the lighthouse (the. Basania 1; pn.—pt. 8.00-15.00), shops and a tourist information office (Tourist Board; the. Istria 2, Basania, tel.052/759659, fax 759855, tz-savudrija@pu.htnet.hr).
Savudrija is also the name of a cape, the westernmost point of Croatia. Its northern side is flooded by the waters of the Piran Lagoon. W 1117 r. near Cape Savudrija, the fleet of the Republic of Venice defeated the ships of Pope Alexander III and Frederick Barbarossa.
The nearby attraction is the lighthouse, the oldest preserved building of this type on the Croatian coast (1818).
